Local pediatricians encourage exercise even in cold months

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT News)-- Even though we are in the chillier months, local pediatricians say it's still vital that your kids keep up healthy habits.

In the cold temperatures and with snow on the ground, parents may feel tempted to keep their kids inside all day. But We Can! Mesa County pediatricians say kids still need to have regular exercise. Western Colorado Pediatrics say that about one third of the kids they see are overweight or obese.

"It's still OK to go outside. Bundle up, go in every 15 to 20 minutes if you're getting cold and warm up and then go outside and play again," says pediatrician with We Can! Mesa County, Dr. Barbara Zind.

Local pediatricians with We Can! Mesa County also encourage parents to limit the amount of screen time kids are getting.

We Can! Mesa County focuses on teaching healthy habits to kids and parents. They offer sessions every Wednesday from 5 pm to 7 pm. If you are looking to get involved, you can call Western Colorado Pediatrics at 970-243-5437
