GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT News)-- Local businesses are taking action to reduce their water usage.
Ute Water's Drought Response Information Project (DRIP) honored Discount Tires this morning for efficient water use.
Last year's drought motivated them to change the landscape of their building. They took out grass and added dirt and small plants.
By doing this the company was able to reduce the amount of water they used while increasing the size of their parking lot.
"We're really hoping this side of town starts to rebloom, and we know even across the street they're revitalizing that parking lot already. So the idea would be that this whole side of town hopefully would start to revitalize and take the same steps," said Discount Tires Manager Corey Rehburg.
Ute Water says water usage is at its peak in July.
