Local Uber driver arrested after alleged burglary

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- A local Uber driver is in jail after allegedly stealing a woman’s phone and debit cards from her apartment.

According to the Grand Junction Police Department, Chukwuma Okeke, 31, of Grand Junction, was arrested on charges of burglary, theft and use of a stolen credit card. This all after police got a call about a burglary on Monday.

The victim told police she had all her stolen items early Monday morning when she took an Uber home from the downtown area. But, when she woke up later she found her phone, watch and several debit cards gone from her apartment. She also found the front door was unlocked.

Police say the victim checked her bank accounts online, and saw that someone had withdrawn money from her account using an ATM.

Police officers checked security footage from the ATM, and the person in the video matched the description of the suspect. The car in the video was also registered to the suspect, according to the Grand Junction Police Department.
