GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- If you need to make a stop at the Mesa County Landfill, the trip will be much shorter now.
31 Road is back open, after an approximately 90-day construction project wrapped up earlier this week.
Construction crews lowered part of the road six to eight feet as it peaked over the hill.
Officials say drivers looking to take the road to the compost facility can see oncoming traffic much easier now.
“As far as safety is concerned, you know, that was the biggest part of it, the most important piece. Especially on that compost road, when you are trying to come out of that road, you couldn’t see to your left or to your right. Now you can. Now you have better sight visibility because they lowered that road," said Solid Waste Director, Barrett Jensen.
The final numbers aren’t in yet, but the landfill says the project cost just over half a million dollars.
