MESA COUNTY, Colo. The Grand Junction Lions Club is back and doing what they do best, raising funds and giving them away.

On Tuesday, Kids Aid of Colorado got $10,000 to purchase a walk in cooler for their backpack program.

They discreetly send qualifying kids home with backpacks full of food over the weekends during the school year.

The refrigerator will mean more nutrition for these kids.

“We really wanted to include some fresh produce in our bags. Up until now, it's been all non-perishable items and this is just an exciting new development, " said Mary Beth Luedtke, the executive director of Kids Aid.

All the food sent home with the backpack program can either be prepared by a child or eaten straight out of the packages.
