GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT)-- Mesa County Search and Rescue gearing up for some winter weather rescues.
The beginning of winter weather is a busy time of year for the group because the weather changes can catch people off guard. They say it's the most dangerous time, but not their busiest.
"Spring is the busiest time of the year, but this is probably the most dangerous time of the year because it could be 40 degrees today, but it'll be 20 degrees tonight and that's dangerous," said Mark Hart, Mesa County Search and Rescue President.
To make their job easier, here are a few tips to follow before spending your day outdoors: tell someone where you're going and for how long, check the weather and avalanche conditions, wear the proper gear and have plenty of water.
Mesa County Search and Rescue is a volunteer group. They are currently on the lookout for more volunteers. If you're interested in applying you can find more information mcsargt.com.
