Irrigation repairs impact thousands of customers

PALISADE, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- A broken pipe is leaving some residents without irrigation water, and impacting crops.

On April 22, a garbage truck was following its normal route, and picked up trash at an address in between 34 and 35 Roads on G Road.

When it backed out, a culvert, or a pipe that allows water to flow under a road, collapsed underneath it, and the truck got stuck.

As a result, the Palisade Irrigation District says they had to shut down and drain the water out of the damaged area so it can be fixed.

The district says around 8,000 people could lose irrigation water.

Some farmers in the area say it will have an impact on their crops, but they aren't too worried.
