House fire shuts down busy downtown area

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) -- Everyone appears to be safe after a house fire near 8th Street and Grand Avenue.

The Grand Junction Fire Department was called out a little before 8 p.m. Thursday, when they arrived they say they saw black smoke coming out of the roof of the home.

Crews were able to quickly get it under control, but emergency responders blocked off a busy part of Grand Avenue, causing detours.

No word yet on what caused the fire or the extent of the damage.
