GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- More than 30 schools in District 51 are teaching their students the importance of coding.

It's part of preparing them for 21st century skills, to problem solve and be creative.

They used an international program called the ‘Hour of Code, showing that anyone can learn the basics in an hour.

From designing robots to creating video game dance parties, the students learned a lot.

"We are preparing students for jobs that don't even exist right now we are trying to prepare them through persistence through problem solving, being creative, learning the design process or problem solving process,” said Michael Gregorich, Computer Science teacher at West Middle School.

West Middle School has been teaching coding for the past three years. Students will be participating every day as part of Computer Science Education Week.
