GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT News)-- The Mesa County Fair kicked off on Wednesday and there was no shortage of fun events.

Opening day was Beacon Senior Day, where seniors can play free bingo and win cash prizes. There was also a variety of contests including pizza eating, ice cream eating and a mooing contest, where the person with the best cow moo wins.

With temperatures close to triple digits, the fair has options for staying cool.

“We have covered shade in the Mahindra Arena, which is where our Beacon Senior bingo is going on. Plus, all of our show barns are covered as well,” says Fair Marketing Director, Mackenzie Dodge.

In the indoor facilities, large fans and water misters are helping to keep temperatures down. There's also free water offered in the Ambassador tent. If you are at the fair and not feeling too well, an emergency tent is set up for help.
