MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- There is plenty happening around the Grand Valley Wednesday and Thursday so you won't miss out on any of the 4th of July fun.
Over in Fruita, the town's Independence Day celebration is happening Wednesday at 5:00 PM at Civic Center Park. The event is sponsored by Family Health West to benefit local youth through the Grant a Wish Program. There will be free hot dogs and music, plus don't forget to wear your best red, white and blue outfit for a chance to win some prizes.
If you’re looking for a firework show, the GJ Rockies will have a couple at Suplizio Field after they play the Orem Olwz. They will have fireworks following their games Thursday and Friday.
The Mesa County Search and Rescue Technical Team will climb Independence Monument on 4th of July. They will be raising the American flag in honor of the holiday. The event is sponsored by Summit Ridge Guides and SCL Health Medical Group Rocky Mountain Orthopedics. The two organizations provide equipment and logistics needed for the climb.
There are 15 hikers total participating tomorrow, nine of which are search and rescue members who will be joined by six guests, including military veterans. All proceeds will be donated to Mesa County Search and Rescue Control for equipment and training.
The flag rising will happen between 10:30-11:00 AM and can be viewed from several locations at the top of the Colorado National Monument.
Thursday, the Credit Union of Colorado will be hosting its 4th of July parade in downtown Grand Junction. That is set to start at 10:00 AM.
The City of Montrose’s Office of Business and Tourism is also getting ready for their annual Independence Day parade. Their parade will be held downtown at 4:00 PM instead of at 10:00 AM like it has in the past.
Montrose will feature a Picnic in the Park event following the parade. The event will have live music, along with bounce houses, yard games, face painting and an apple pie eating contest. The community is encouraged to pack a picnic as well.
All of this will lead up to the fireworks show. For more information, you can visit CityOfMontrose.org.
The Town of Palisade will host a parade and barbecue. The parade will start at 10:00 AM at the Palisade Fire Department. The barbecue will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Park around 11:00 AM. There will also be free ice cream.
