Shield616 is working with Safeway to bring law enforcement around the state rifle rated gear. The Grand Junction Police Department is one of the agencies that will benefit from the partnership.

When you're out shopping at Safeway stores here in the Grand Valley you will be given the option to add a donation to your grocery bill. The money raised on the Western Slope will stay here.

The Grand Junction Police Department says the gear is critical for officers.

"The nature of police work now requires our officers to have this life-saving gear," Heidi Davidson, public information officer with the Grand Junction Police Department, said. "They encounter more and more critical incidents, they encounter more and more people who are willing to be violent with police officers and it's imperative that our officers have this equipment."

You have until May 4th to donate through Safeway.
