GJFD gets a new clean cab engine
The Grand Junction Fire Department held a special ceremony in honor of their new engine.
It's a new clean cab engine. Station Four in Orchard Mesa now has an area to place their contaminated gear.
This way they aren't in the truck, breathing in chemicals from their gear.
It's all part of an effort to lower cancer risk.
"Unfortunately in the fire service we are seeing a lot more cancer than we use to." Says ken Watkins, Grand Junction Fire Chief. "We are trying to do whatever we can to reduce the risk of our firefighters being exposed to the carcinogens that happen in every fire."
Third graders next door at Lincoln Orchard Mesa Elementary were a part of the ceremony. As tradition, the new fire engine is hosed down by the old engine. The students helped dry it off.
