GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) -- Friday marks the third year anniversary of the death of Deputy Derek Geer.

Married to the Badge is asking you to wear blue Friday, February 8th, to remember Geer and the sacrifice he made. The Mesa County Sheriff's Office will also be airing a moment of silence, as they do every year, over the radio.

MCSO says it's important to remember Geer not only for the sacrifice he made, but for his family, friends and coworkers who have had to deal with his loss since.

"When I reflect back on this, it's still something that is difficult every year as this rolls around," Sheriff Matt Lewis of the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, said. "It's very personal to me. I knew Derek well."

The sheriff's office also honors Geer heavily during police week which is in May.
