GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- A major community cleanup project is underway in Clifton.
The county has been busy picking up large waste items, like mattresses and old beds in the areas of D road to E road, and also 32 Road to 33 Road.
It's a part of a joint effort between the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, Public Health, and The Colorado Trust, among other groups.
Officials say most of the trash violations in the county happen in this area.
"For health and safety reasons, we want the area to be clean. Our first day here, we found some needles on the ground, and that's what we are trying to get rid of. We are trying to clean up the area, and make it safe, for the public and kids, and for people to live in," said Greg St. Martin, Code Compliance Officer for Mesa County.
Crews will be out collecting in Clifton October 9th, and they will pick up items for free.
