GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- So far in 2018, there have been four officer-involved shootings in Mesa County.
The fourth happened Tuesday night on Orchard Mesa. Mesa County Sheriff’s Deputies were trying to arrest a man wanted for failing to register as a sex offender.
Law Enforcement said the suspect struck a deputy trying to flee. Another deputy fired his weapon and hit the man. The suspect was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. On Wednesday, Police said the suspect was in stable condition. The investigation is still ongoing.
The Mesa County Sheriff’s office said none of the shootings are tied together, nor do they have any trends.
"They're completely separate incidents, they have their own unique circumstances around the situation,” said Megan Terlecky, spokesperson for the MCSO
In 2017, there were none involving Mesa County Sheriff’s Deputies. A recent state report looked at officer-involved shootings from January 2010 to June 2017 in Colorado. Mesa County Sheriff's office reported eight in that time frame.
