MONTROSE, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The hospital transport group, CareFlight, introduced it’s first all-female crew this week.
CareFlight has been around for more than 40 years, and just this year, they’ve hired their first female pilot and paramedic.
“I have two daughters, so it’s kind of cool to have them see that there’s women doing things in a typically male-dominated world,” said Leah Brito, flight nurse.
There are not many all-woman flight crews across the country, and of all pilots, only about seven percent are women. The ladies of CareFlight, also known as “The Broad Squad,” are happy to be some of the few.
“It’s a pretty male-dominated industry and I think women are realizing that it’s something they can do. It’s exciting to kind of see that,” said Esther Babcock, helicopter pilot.
