An early morning shooting Tuesday has sent one to the hospital and another person has been detained.

Just after 4:20 Tuesday morning reports of a possible shooting started to come in.

The Grand Junction Police Department say they were dispatched to a report of a male in the roadway with injuries to his face, possibly by gunshots.

The man was conscious and breathing when officers arrived. He was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

It happened outside a home off 29 road in Grand Junction.

29 road was closed for several hours between North Avenue and Bunting Avenue in both directions.

Law enforcement with GJPD and MCSO say they later detained a suspect in the shooting near Rocky Mountain Elementary.

We're told the suspect crashed a car into pole at 32 1/2 and E Roads and then reportedly took off on foot.

Police say after a short chase, the suspect was caught and taken into custody.

Rocky Mountain Elementary School was briefly placed into lockdown during the apprehension of the suspect, but has since been released back to normal operations.

There is no outstanding danger to the public related to this incident.
