FRUITVALE, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Early Friday morning, just after 3:00 a.m., deputies say a robbery took place on Eastbrook Street.

A Mesa County Sheriff's Deputy tells our crew on the scene that a man wearing a mask entered a local man’s home and assaulted the 81-year-old homeowner.

We're told the suspect may have had a gun at the time.

Following the assault, deputies say the suspect stole the homeowner's 2017 silver Ford Mustang.

The homeowner called 911 to report this and deputies were able to locate the stolen vehicle a block away on Bookcliff Avenue.

Mesa County Sheriff's deputies say it appears the suspect had trouble driving it and abandoned the vehicle.

At last check, they are still searching for the suspect and a reverse 911 call was sent out for a mile radius of the address.

The suspect is described as a man wearing all dark clothing, a mask, possibly white shoes, and is about 5’8”.
