Driving in winter weather

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Winter weather continues to plow through Colorado, and it can be an issue when driving to work or school.

Here in the Grand Valley, we don't have too much to worry about, but it's a pretty big issue for the mountainous areas. Snow during the morning rush hour can lead to a dangerous drive.

“Anyone who is traveling over the highways and over the mountain passes should check the latest forecast and be cautious of those road conditions because they can go from dry to very snowy within a few minutes,” said Matthew Aleksa, meteorologist at the National Weather Service.

It's best to avoid hitting the road after a winter storm, but sometimes that's not always possible. So the National Weather Service advises that drivers check the forecast before their commute so that they're not caught off guard when some winter weather hits.
