Deceased teen was basketball player at Montrose High School

MONTROSE, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The Montrose County Sheriff's Office says a teen died after jumping into a canal to save his dog.

The body of 17-year-old Connor Imus was pulled from the South Canal east of Montrose.

He was found at the Drop Five Hydro-Electric Generation Plant near Pahgre Road.

The sheriff's office says he was reported missing the night of May 5th, after he took his dog for a walk and never came back.

The morning of May 6th, the dog was found dead in the canal, and around 2 PM the same day, Connor's body was found.

Imus was a basketball player at Montrose High School, was named a CHSAA and Max Preps Class 4A All-State honorable mention, and helped get the Indians to the second round of the 4A State Tournament.

He averaged just under 9 points a game, and had 91 rebounds and 95 assists this season.
