GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- A Front Range district attorney will not seek the death penalty in the case against a man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend last summer.

Tanner Flores, now 19, is accused of shooting 18-year-old Ashley Doolittle in Larimer County before driving her body to Collbran last June.

That case goes to trial next week. He faces charges of first-degree murder and second-degree kidnapping in the death of Ashley Doolittle.

Flores originally told Mesa County authorities that Doolittle grabbed his revolver and it went off during a struggle, but he later said that he retrieved the revolver and shot Doolittle twice because he was angry with her.
