School District 51 is considering a later cutoff date for kids starting school.

Kids in the school district must turn five on or before July 15 to start kindergarten, but that date could be pushed back.

The original date was September 15. They say one of the reasons they want to change it is because of the number of kids they might be missing out on.

"We are losing some students to other schools that are either private or charter schools or schools in another district even because they have a later cutoff date," says Emily Shockley with the Mesa County School District.

There is no word on when that later date might be, but Statewide, the cutoff date is October 1.
