GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT News)-- CPW is warning pet owners to be on alert for coyotes in the next few weeks.
CPW says February and March are the prime breeding season for the animals. During this time they can become more aggressive and can prey on domestic pets, especially dogs.
CPW wants to remind pet owners to keep dogs on a leash when you are out for a walk. They also recommend keeping pets inside your home or in a locked kennel at night.
"Coyotes have adapted to all habitat types so they are right here in the cities. Not as abundant as out in the country, but they are definitely in the urban areas as well," says Ivan Archer with CPW.
If you happen to come across an aggressive coyote, you are urged to call CPW.
