MONTROSE, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- After a months long investigation, a suspect has been identified after a shooting on Highway 50 in Montrose County, and will face justice.
The Montrose County Sheriff's Office says 18-year-old Hunter Sallee was arrested back in January for unrelated drug offenses.
It was later determined through investigation that he was the driver that shot at a mom and her daughter just north of Olathe on Highway 50.
The mom escaped with minor injuries.
We're told the investigation took so long because evidence, like bullet casings, were sent to CBI and investigators interviewed people within the jail system for more information.
"There was a little girl in the vehicle as well, which it could have been...it could have been a double homicide very easily. And we found out later on that this was pretty much just a random thing, these people were not targeted," Sheriff Lillard said.
Hunter Sallee faces a court date coming up Thursday, February 13th.
He's been charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder, illegal discharge of a firearm and two counts of reckless endangerment.
