COLORADO. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Backers of a proposal to ban abortions at 22 weeks can start collecting voter signatures to try to put it on the 2020 ballot in Colorado.
According to the Associated Press, the secretary of state’s office approved the petition format Thursday.
Supporters have until March 4 to collect 124,632 valid signatures to make it on the ballot.
The proposal on what many are calling late-term abortions would make it illegal for anyone to get an abortion when a fetus is at 22 weeks or later.
Abortions would only be allowed after the 22-week mark if the mother’s physical health is at risk. However, there would be no exception to having an abortion after 22 weeks if the mother’s psychological health is at risk.
Colorado is one of seven states without time limits on when women can get an abortion.
