Colorado Mountain College hosts STEM conference

RIFLE, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- A STEM conference was in Rifle, where students from all over Western Colorado put their minds to work.

The students got hands on experience with everything from rockets to robots, and everything in between.

Experts say STEM related jobs are up in the country by about 20%, and the earlier that students can get hands-on experience, the better.

"The big thing, is just how to solve problems, which its my personal belief that that's what school is for. After doing all this stuff, I understand, when I go to a problem, how to approach, it read it, and solve it," said Coal Ridge High School Graduate, Wyeth Doherty.

Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows the national average salary for a stem related job is more than $87,000 dollars a year.
