City snow preparation

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT)-- A few storm systems are making their way to the state and the city of Grand Junction is already in preparation mode for the incoming snow.

The city watches the weather carefully and then decides when the best time is to start plowing and salting the roads.

They focus on high traffic areas, like Patterson and I-70-B, as well as places that law enforcement and medical personal consistently travel.

"Places that we know that the police department or fire department or the rescue squad needs get, we prioritize that," says Darren Starr, Manager of Streets and Solid Waste for GJ. "Schools, churches, you know those places that we know are important."

Officials with the city want to remind folks that when the streets get hit with snow, try and stay home. The city can most effectively do their job when you keep the roads clear when winter weather hits.
