GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) -- Staff of a local Chinese restaurant had a pretty scary encounter earlier this week when a car crashed through their store.
It happened at Sang Garden Chinese Restaurant on Horizon Dr. Monday night.
It was all an accident -- we're told someone stepped on the gas after they thought they had put the car in park, and launched forward -- but it left a gaping hole in the restaurant, which meant it had to be boarded up.
The boards have since been painted with a positive Christmas message, and staff says it's been a smash hit (no pun intended).
"I'm hoping people feel inspired by it,” Roxanne Harvey, a waitress at the restaurant, said. “But certainly we've had lots of customers come in and be like 'oh, you guys are still open and you guys are serving food. I'm surprised by how warm it is in the restaurant with that gaping hole.' We've just had a lot of positivity and support come in just from the community in general.”
Despite the customer support for the board's artwork, owners still have to run a business. They hope to have repairs done soon, but say insurance has been slow to get back to them.
