GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- At Chipeta Elementary young students escorted veterans through the hallways of the school.
A color guard was also present as kids honored the vets.
The fifth graders sang patriotic songs.
Music teacher Marie Leslie has a special place in her heart for veterans.
Her son served in Iraq, and her father is also a veteran.
"Unless you know someone who has been in the military and seen deployments you really don't have any idea what a soldier or a soldier's family goes through, I think its important that kids today understand the sacrifices they make and how bold and how brave and how courageous they are," Leslie said.
The school plans to host the same event on Veteran's Day next year.
