MONTROSE, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Centennial Middle School in Montrose is after two grants, totaling around $800,000 to build an adaptive playground for special needs students.
One grant is from the Colorado Health Foundation, and the other is from Great Outdoors Colorado.
Currently, the kids don't have much to play on, and have to stay in an enclosed area for safety reasons. Officials say they are looking at putting in things like AstroTurf, and a wheelchair-accessible swing.
"It would be equipment that is able to accommodate those students. A big thing is our parents don't like heights. so, equipment that takes the height away. so that way the students don't have the potential to fall,” said Principle, Joe Simo.
If they get the money, construction would start in Spring of 2020.
