Canyon View Park turns into winter wonderland

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Canyon View Park looked more like a winter wonderland early Thursday morning.

Ice covered the grass, trees, and nearby sidewalks.

It all happened after the sprinklers were turned on during a very cold and frosty morning.

It only affected the north parks close to the parking lot, across from the dog park and baseball fields.

The park has more than 30 valves and 15,000 sprinklers. Nothing was damaged.

"The temperatures, we did not anticipate dropping as much as low as they were. It was about 19 degrees this morning, when they came in the program stacked a little bit so it watered a little bit more than we had anticipated or wanted it to run, therefore this morning we came in to some ice,” said Marc Mancuso, Parks Supervisor, City of Grand Junction.

Crews say although it was an icy mess, everyone was okay, no slips, slides or falls. This was their last watering of the year, winterization starts next week.
