CSP to up patrol on I-70 for holiday travel

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT)-- Colorado State Patrol will be heavily monitoring I-70 on Nov. 27 to make sure people are obeying the rules.

CSP will patrol I-70 from the Utah Border all the way to the Eisenhower tunnel. Each trooper will be assigned to a 20 mile section -- paying attention to distracted drivers, and people who are speeding.

Officials say the day before Thanksgiving is one of the most heaviest driven days of the year because of Thanksgiving, and they want to help reduce traffic fatalities, and crashes.

"We did a similar operation last year and last year the results were very positive. During the operation time frame, we didn't have any injuries crashes or fatalities. And it was about the same time frame and same troops were involved in it. And we're just hoping for the same results this year,” says CSP Capt. Matt Ozanic.

These added patrols will only be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
