For hunters who may be looking for some tips on how to field -dress your big game, you may want to start your registration now.

CPW is offering a one-time only 'field dressing 101" session. Hunters will learn the best methods and techniques for preparing big game.

"What's unique about this class is that you will learn on an actual animal. Most of them are roadkill animal. That gives you the opportunity to get your hands on an animal carcass and learn how to process it," says Mike Porras with CPW.

This session is for both novice and expert hunters.

Colorado regulations require hunters to prepare all harvested big game animals for food as soon as possible after being killed.

"If you are planning on taxidermy (mounting the animal) there's also a correct way of processing that animal in the field," says Porras.

The session will be on January 27 at 6 pm at the Horsethief Canyon State Wildlife Area. Registration is required and is limited to the first forty people that sign-up. Visit or call 970-255-6100 to reserve your spot.
