CMU starts summer art programs

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The Arts Center and CMU are teaming up this summer to provide art workshops for teens.

The classes are taught by CMU art professors, and are aimed at students ages 13 to 18.

The CMU staff will teach things like drawing, painting, and even animation classes.

The classes will give teens a chance to see the university's art degree programs up close, and get in depth instruction.

"We would like to see the kids come out of this with the knowledge that they can succeed in creating, and expressing themselves in creation. There is so little focus on arts in the schools because of budgetary reasons," said Executive Director, Lee Borden.

The classes started today, and will go on until August 2nd.

The Montrose Center for the arts is also working with CMU to offer classes.
