CMU offers free classes to Russel Stover workers

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- After Russel Stover announced the closure of the Montrose plant in 2021, CMU is trying to help their workers.

Colorado Mesa University sent out letters last week saying they will offer plant workers two semesters worth of classes for free.

The offer is good for any of the CMU campuses in Grand Junction or Montrose, and also at Western Colorado Community College.

When the plant shuts down for good, about 400 Montrose locals will be jobless.

“You have folks that are really good people, and they have great work ethic, and so how do we give them the skills and the education that Montrose can then attract other businesses in or those folks can go on to other careers,” said President of CMU, Tim Foster.

Anyone interested can sign up as soon as they are ready to enroll.
