Businesses could break ground at Las Colonias this summer

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) -- The City of Grand Junction says Las Colonias will be 'open for business' this summer. They expect the second phase of their project, which is infrastructure for the business park, to be done soon.

The park is a little under 150 acres. It was originally going to be a recreation park only, but around two years ago the city decided to designate some of that space for businesses.

Two have already decided to move to the area. Bonsai Design and RockyMounts, a bike accessory company out of Boulder, will be breaking ground soon.

The City says the business park is a great way to bring outdoor-oriented businesses to the area.

"What we've really turned is a recreation park that wasn't going to be a revenue generating, or job producing, and really added that business park," Greg Caton, city manager for the City of Grand Junction, said.

The next phase is the river recreation area, that will get people closer to the water.
