GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Colorado's Senate passed a contentious bill to grant more local control over oil and gas drilling operations.
The bill would give local governments authority over the location of new wells. Currently, the state determines well locations which environmentalists say drives profit and production over anything else.
Republicans argue it will eliminate jobs and hurt rural economies. Supporters say wells are being drilled too close to neighborhoods and environmentally sensitive areas.
Friday, March 15 the Western Slope Colorado Oil and Gas Association will join energy workers to oppose the bill.
The rally will be at 11:30 a.m. at Ute Water location at 2190 H ¼ Road in Grand Junction.
