Bike parade raises awareness for mental health
Mental health was brought to the attention of community members Saturday morning.
A bike parade with decorated bikes from the organization Healthier Colorado rode from Lincoln Park to Main Street and back to bring awareness to mental health.
“We want to make sure that people know about the resources that already exist in their community. Second we want to have fun while destigmatizing mental health with a bike parade,” Jake Williams, executive director Healthier Colorado, said.
Streamers, balloons and signs decorated the bikes, while about 100 people registered for the event.
“People should know that mental health is a serious issue, but at the same time shouldn’t be one that exists in silence. It’s as acceptable to talk about mental health as it is physical health,” Williams said.
This was the first year for the event, and Williams said they hope to make it an annual one.
