WOODLAND PARK, Colo. (KKCO-KJCT)-- Lightning doesn't just kill people. It can also take the life of bears!

With afternoon thunderstorms being the norm in Colorado this time of year, it is a great time to warn people about the dangers of lightning.

A bear in a tree died Monday in Woodland Park after it was struck by lightning. The bear, which was estimated to weigh around 300 pounds, died instantly, says Colorado Parks and Wildlife Officer Tim Kroening.

Remember, when lightning is in the area, get indoors! You do not want to end up with the same fate as this bear!
