Bestslope Coffee helps out unpaid government workers

FRUITA, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- It is officially the longest government shutdown in history, now going on its 22nd day. Businesses in Fruita are reaching out to government workers to help.

Bestslope Coffee is offering a free 12-ounce coffee to any government employee not getting paid. They say they will continue this deal for those who missed out and even if the government reopens, the offer will still stand. About 52,000 federal workers in Colorado are being affected by the shutdown.

“We respect the people in our community, we respect our Valley, and it’s hard when people can’t go to work. They have now missed a paycheck and that’s just rough. So, we want to help out and we want them to know they are valued here and that they can come get some free coffee on us,” says Tori Miner, Bestslope Coffee Barista.

The coffee shop had a handful of people come in for a free drink on Saturday and expect more in the coming days.
