GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT News)-- Dry conditions caused another brush fire at Connected Lakes over the weekend, this one burning west of the boat ramp.
Grand Junction Fire used a float pump to draw water directly from the lakes to help put it out. Crews also worked to put out hot spots in the area. This is the second fire to occur within the Connected Lakes area this summer, happening just days after the Riverview Fire burned on the Redlands.
"There's a great deal of fuel down there. It's hot, it's dry, some days are very windy. And a very small spark or heat source can start a very big fire,” says Community Outreach Specialist, Dirk Clingman.
Deputies say the fire was human caused and is currently under investigation. No injuries were reported.
