Affidavit: Stabbing leads to interstate shutdown

Justin Lopez Madrid

GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Above is a photo of the man police say is responsible for shutting down Interstate 70 earlier this week in Garfield County.

Officers feared he had a gun. Justin Madrid is being held on charges of attempted first-degree murder after he stabbed a man who, according to an arrest affidavit, was trying to help him on the side of the road.

He was also hurt in the altercation. Madrid then left the scene and went up on a hillside along I-70.

Police feared he might do harm so they closed the interstate as they worked to get him in custody. The ordeal lasted more than 3 hours causing significant backups and delays.
