GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- In the coming weeks, you could see more ATV's on Horizon Drive.
That's because an ATV and UTV rental company are asking for permission from Grand Junction City Council to let customers drive rented vehicles to the desert, via Horizon Drive.
The way it is now, the company has to put the ATV's on a trailer and take them to the desert on 27 ¼ Road.
At the regular meeting on Monday, City Council approved an amendment to the municipal code, allowing the off-road vehicles to drive on the street for a trial period starting next month.
The amendment is specific to this company, Adrenaline Driven Adventure, and does not allow all ATVs and UTVs to use the road this way.
The Horizon Drive Business Improvement District says they don't think this will cause many problems.
"We have golf carts already that already drive to Bookcliff Country Club, and those are allowed because they do have safety features that are required, but I don't expect this to bring a huge influx of ATV'ers on Horizon Drive, just from that one company," said Executive Director, Vara Kusal.
The trial period ends in December 2020.
