GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- There is an investigation underway involving the death of a Grand Junction man who was a medic in the United States Army and was stationed in Hawaii.

According to the Army, the death of 28-year-old Jon Skogen has been ruled a suicide by the Department of the Medical Examiner for the City and County of Honolulu. We are told his death reportedly happened off base in Hawaii, so the Honolulu Police Department is the lead investigating agency.

Skogen's family wants the community to remember him as a man who went above and beyond the call of duty.

They describe him as someone who was selfless and put everyone's needs above his own.

We're told there will be a celebration of life for him at 3:00 p.m. on November 18 at the Canyon View Vineyard Church. It is open to the public.

If you or anyone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide, you can call the National Suicide Hotline at 1-800-273-8255.
