GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - From school shootings to home invasions, parents know that the world we live in can be a scary place.
Security expert Ryan Dobson spent the morning speaking at Victory Life Church about ways to prepare for any type of emergency. As much as people like to hope that bad things wouldn't happen to their kids, listeners were reminded that hope is not a plan. Scenarios that are parents' worst nightmares are happening more often; the Denver Post says there were over 300 mass shootings in the U.S. last year alone.
"Just having situational awareness; this is to make people prepared, not paranoid. Just know where you are. When you come into a church or a big box store or a Walmart; where are the entrances? Where are the exits? If something happened, where would you go? And once you know those things, you're more comfortable in all of those situations," says Ryan Dobson, Founder of Home Safe Seminar.
While we can't prevent bad things from happening, we can prepare ourselves and our kids to handle these situations. This event was free and open to the public.
