GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT)-- Grand Junction police are investigating an incident that happened by the Domino’s on North Avenue...A video circulating on social media appears to show a student being attacked by other teenagers in a parking lot in the middle of the day.
A concerned parent sent the video which is now all over social media. She says it shows a Grand Junction High School student being brutally beaten by a fellow classmate.
Police say the incident happened on Oct. 8 a little before noon. They have identified and contacted everyone who was involved. But, because they are all minors, their names will not be released.
One concerned parent who wants to remain anonymous says she doesn't understand why this happened.
"This girl could have died, one more kick to the face or punch to the neck and she could have died. And she passed out halfway through the fight, and they continued hitting her when she was down,” she says.”
Police say no one has been charged yet, but they expect that there will be charges filed after they are finished investigating.
School District 51 sent out a statement about the incident, which says in part, “the safety and security of our students, families, and staff is a top priority. In D-51, we do not tolerate violence on or off our campus.”
It goes on to say, “we investigate each incident individually and take appropriate action once all facts have been gathered.”
D-51 also says that an assault on or off campus can lead to a three to five days suspension or the possibility of being expelled.
