GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- A student organization at CMU wanted to help veterans on campus feel a little more comfortable.
The Student Veterans Association held what they call Green Zone Training.
It's an effort to help professors understand the needs of student veterans.
The group talked about some of the realities veterans face, like re-adjusting from active duty to regular civilian life, and scheduling classes around VA appointments.
The CMU SVA hopes this training will help vets speak up if they need help.
“I hope to see a better dialogue between professors and their veterans, to be able to help them out when they need it. Because sometimes, veterans have a hard time talking to a professor about the issues they are having. So we are hoping to establish a better dialogue; have the professors have a working knowledge about what it is that veterans could possibly be going through," Vice President of Student Veterans Association, Andrew Rapozo.
CMU says they have nearly 350 student veterans on campus.
