GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) -- Community Hospital celebrated a year in its new location on G Road Friday.

Since its move, the hospital has welcomed 40 percent more patients.

About 100 hospital staff members celebrated the anniversary of the new location.

After the $50 million renovation investment, President Chris Thomas said the hospital is now just starting to be able to cover the costs.

With more than 600 babies being born at the new location, the hospitals hopes to only continue to make more improvements in the coming year.

"The labor and delivery unit has been so successful looking how to expand and continue to grow that program. We also just had a hugely successful, Level 3 Trauma survey, so we will recommended by that state, to become a level three trauma center,” said Thomas.

If the hospital gets the new Level 3 Trauma distinction, it will be able to handle more serious medical issues, which will help other medical centers in rural areas.
