GRAND JUNCTION, Colo., (KJCT) -- There are some changes coming to the Grand Junction Gold's Gym. In fact, it soon won't be a Gold's Gym at all.
The owners of the gym are deciding to leave the franchise, after starting it up about 10 years ago.
They are re-branding and calling it "Mesa Fitness."
The owner and general manager Cole Christensen said the change will make a stronger commitment to the community, by removing the Gold's gym franchise and its requirements.
"I have to buy with preferred vendors and national buyer programs, and what I can do now is truly take members' hard earned dollars and reinvest them into local businesses and in the community here,” said Christensen.
Changes will begin March 15.
The owner says no fees or services will change for members.
The length of member contracts will also stay the same, because the financial contracts are with ABC Financial not with Gold's Gym.
The membership cards only worked for Gold's locations on the Western Slope -- Montrose, Clifton and Grand Junction -- therefore no access to other gyms would be lost in the switch.
They will also keep all the same staff members.
The gym will stay open during renovations.
